Kindergarten Preparation

Ara's Angels Preschool in Norco - Our Classroom

Our Comprehensive Kindergarten Preparation Program

Kindergarten Preparation starts in infancy. Our comprehensive Norco preschool program ensures that your child will be prepared to enter kindergarten when he or she turns 5 years old.

Each day begins with the Pledge of Allegiance. Other daily educational activities include, but are not limited to the following activities:

Letter of the Day – We concentrate on one letter per day, drawing on the board four words and pictures beginning with that specific letter. We then read a “My “Letter” Book” from Moncure’s “My First Steps to Reading” series, highlighting the letter of the day with a variety of different words beginning with that letter

Shape of the Day – Rotating through twelve different shapes (including trapezoid and octagon), the picture and written word of the shape are studied. Focusing on the written word helps prime our students’ pre-reading skills

Number of the Day – Each day a number between 0 and 20 are written on the board in both numeric and alphabetic form

Counting – Counting from 1 to 30 occurs daily, with large numbers reinforced by visual representation.

All About Today – An interactive changeable board that teaches the children to understand and identify the current date, day of the week, month of the year, season, weather and special events (like major holidays, birthdays, field trips, etc.)

Question of the Day – Each morning one student is chosen to pick the question of the day. Each student offers an answer, then their individual answers are discussed as a group

Colors of the Day – Colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white and grey) are displayed on the wall with three pictorial representations reinforcing each specific color. We sing an interactive song that includes all these colors and then play the “I See Color” game, during which students identify the colors throughout the room

Circle Time Songs – The students meet on the Circle Time Rug, where we sing songs while sitting, standing and dancing. Some of the songs that we sing include: “The Bear Went Over The Mountain”, “The Wheels on the Bus”, “Head Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and many other educational songs.

Pre-Writing Skills – Students trace all letters from A-Z in lower and uppercase characters. Students also trace straight lines, zig-zags, curves and other shapes to develop the fine motor skills required for writing.
